THE HAND BOOKBINDERS OF CALIFORNIA
The Hand Bookbinders of California gathered for the first time in 1972. A close-knit group of hand bookbinders, with shared interests in creating and collecting fine bindings, joined together to promote hand bookbinding and related book arts and to exchange information and ideas.

Rainbow Flag Project
Our organization has been given an enormous 30- by 20-foot flag from the Castro neighborhood in San Francisco. The HBC Board would like to formalize our plans to repurpose the flag in the spirit in which it was given. We intend to exhibit the books created with the flag in our 2025 annual exhibition. Join us in planning this worthy endeavor by the Rainbow Flag Committee.
Text and Texture with Barry Ebner
On Saturday June 22 and Saturday June 29 from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm at The Studio of Nothing Else, 3008 Acton Street, Berkeley
In this class, we'll be learning to print monotypes, a popular printmaking technique that is in many ways a natural for painters to learn. Monotype is a great way to work out ideas because prints will be finished in a couple of hours. You will create unique images that also lead to a series of ghosts, images sharing a relationship with the first pull.
Cost: $240 Non- Members & $200 Members
plus $10 materials fee
New year, new membership cycle!
HBC 2024 Membership
After much consideration, HBC has decided to change our membership cycle to begin January 1 of each year, rather than aligning our membership cycle with our fiscal year. We hope this will make things much easier for members, especially when determining whether your membership is current. For those of you who like to enter our exhibitions, it will also make it easier since you will be renewing your membership before filling out the intent to enter form, rather than after.
